- A phrasal verb is a verb plus one or more small words: turn on, put away, get along with.
- Some phrasal verbs are separable: Turn off the light. / Turn the light off.
- With pronouns, separable phrasal verbs usually split: Turn it off. Put them away. Throw it away.
- Some phrasal verbs are not separable: get along with, find out, warm up, pass out.
- Read the meaning carefully. Some phrasal verbs have more than one meaning.
