Marta: How do you pronounce this word? “Use”?
John: It depends. As a noun, it’s “yoos.”
Marta: And as a verb?
John: “Yooz.” Same /yu/ sound at the beginning.
Marta: What about “umbrella”?
John: That’s the short U: “uhm-BREL-uh.”
