Part 1 — Explanation

The Present Continuous (Present Progressive) describes actions happening right now, around now, or temporary trends.

Formation
  • Affirmative: Subject + am / is / are + verb-ingShe is reading a book.
  • Negative: Subject + am / is / are + not + verb-ingThey are not (aren't) studying now.
  • Yes/No Questions: Am/Is/Are + subject + verb-ing?Are you working?
  • Short answers: Yes, I am. / No, he isn't.
Spelling with -ing
  • Most verbs: work → working
  • Drop silent e: make → making
  • Consonant + vowel + consonant (stress) → double: run → running
  • ie → y: lie → lying
