Formation
- Affirmative:
Subject + am / is / are + verb-ing→ She is reading a book. - Negative:
Subject + am / is / are + not + verb-ing→ They are not (aren't) studying now. - Yes/No Questions:
Am/Is/Are + subject + verb-ing?→ Are you working? - Short answers: Yes, I am. / No, he isn't.
Spelling with -ing
- Most verbs: work → working
- Drop silent e: make → making
- Consonant + vowel + consonant (stress) → double: run → running
- ie → y: lie → lying
