Grammar Cheatsheet
- A phrasal verb is a verb plus one or more small words: turn off, give up, come up with.
- Some phrasal verbs are separable: Turn off the light / Turn the light off.
- With pronouns, separable phrasal verbs usually split: Turn it off, Put them away, Throw it away.
- Three-word phrasal verbs usually stay together: run out of, look forward to, keep up with.
- Some phrasal verbs have more than one meaning. Work out can mean exercise or solve a problem. Pass out can mean distribute or faint.
